Clinical Psychology at Upside Stories
These 50-minute telehealth sessions offer assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based therapy for mental health concerns — such as depression, anxiety, major stress or worry — related to mental illness or life transitions in midlife and older age, including bereavement, trauma, unexpected health events, family caring or parenting, loss, relocation, or retirement.
We take a positive psychology approach —supporting you to not only manage life’s twists and turns but also grow. We’ll explore areas like identity, relationships, ageism, work, health, and creativity — helping you reconnect with meaning, purpose, and belonging — especially if your story includes experiences of invisibility or invalidation along the way.
Online therapy draws on evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, and schema therapy. We also use solutions focused approaches for everyday problem-solving. We’ll also send you reflective activities to try between sessions.
There’s no fixed number of sessions — it depends on your needs. We usually recommend starting with six sessions. Longer-term therapy is for more complex concerns. Although we make recommendations, you decide what works best for you. Most people start weekly or fortnightly, then shift to monthly as confidence grows.
At Upside Stories, we help YOU make sense of what you’re going through and develop strategies to feel better and move forward.
Therapy Tailored to You
We begin with a thorough psychological assessment, listening to your story and understanding your symptoms in context.
Therapy is then tailored to your needs – drawing on evidence based approaches like cognitive-behavioural therapy or schema therapy. Sessions are collaborative, relaxed, and compassionate, at a pace you’re comfortable with.
In clinical psychology sessions, you’ll get a safe, confidential space to explore your feelings and challenges. We work together on practical skills – like coping strategies or mood management – and deeper insights – like uncovering patterns or addressing past wounds – so that you can heal and grow.
